Bullying Prevention
St. Francis of Assisi implemented the renowned Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in January of 2013. This is a school-based effort to reduce bullying in elementary and middle schools. Teachers have received staff development so they are able to incorporate positive strategies to discourage bullying and to help students know how to interact with other students when being bullied. In conjunction with the Olweus Program, we utilize Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) which is a school-wide behavior management system that relies on concise rules and helps faculty and staff solve discipline problems in a constructive manner, shifting from a negative to a positive school environment.
The St. Francis of Assisi Code of Conduct is: Be Safe, Be Responsible, and be Respectful like Christ.
These simple rules are taught and practiced throughout the year by classroom teachers with weekly class meetings. Students and teachers are able to communicate through this forum which has resulted in minimized behavior problems and issues are resolved in a timely manner.

Emergency Safety Interventions
The emergency safety interventions (ESI) law set forth standards for the use of restraint and seclusion to ensure that all Kansas students and staff have a safe learning environment. The standards found in the ESI statutes and regulations are required to be followed in all Kansas public school districts and accredited private schools.
